Orissa in Dobbs Ferry
After a bit of shopping at The Westchester, we headed for Dobbs Ferry for dinner. Though Orissa wasn't on a radar at first, after glancing at some good reviews we decided to try it. It is a contemporary Indian restaurant that offered non-typical Indian menu. Our appetizer, the steamed calamari was infused with a lot of flavor. I ordered gobi matar (califlower and green peas mix) which was cooked differently from the North Indian fare I'm used to. I raelly liked the lightness of the gravy and it tasted even better as left overs. For dessert we has coconut flan which completed a very satisfying meal.

Dinner at Chavin
We discovered another great restaurant in Port Chester on Sunday. Chavin was in the same area with several Latin American restaurants. It offered great choices of meat and seafood along with a couple of vegetarian options. The ceviche was really flavorful and we just couldn't get enough. My main of stir fried fish over french fries was really great too. Everyone topped off this good food with some good Peruvian beer .

Windy Day in the City
When I woke up on Saturday, I was afraid that roof would come crubling down. The wind was that relentless! But it didn't deter us from our plans of heading to the city for the afternoon. We had resverations at Sarabeth's West for a late brunch. The food was AMAZING. I really liked my vege omelette that was served with a perfect scone. But I loved the French toast that Nelson ordered. Next time I'm really going to indulge in some carb filled buttermilk goodness.
Since it wasn't a good day to be outside we took advantage of out corporate membership and spent an afternoon at the American Museum of Natural History. It was a great way to spend an afternoon and get a tour of the history of the world. I especially liked these giant stuffed animals. Though I'm not a fan of dinausars, I was still intrigued by their giant skeletons, which have been the trademarks of this museum. Asia, Africa and Southern America were well represented regions and there was great diversity in the types of exhibits as well.
For dinner, we crossed the river to New Jersey for a delicious dinner at a friend's home. It was a lovely evening of catching up and enjoying good food and even greater company.

Valentine's Day Dinner
On our way home we had dinner at Los Abuelos, a Mexican restaurant in Ossining. The tiny restaurant was decorated in pink and hearts for the big day. The vegetable burrito I ordered had great flavor. I had one for left overs which was even better the next day. Nelson was quite happy with his three meat combo of fajitas too. The tres leches cake was not as authentic as I hoped but it was beautifully decorated. A nice find in our neighborhood.

Pre- Valentine's Date
After a long day at work Nelson suggested dinner at Izumi a Japanese restaurant on Route 9. Though he had been there for lunch before, it was my first time. We ordered Hamachi Kama (yellow tail tuna fish collar) as an appetizer and a combination of sushi for dinner. The food was quite good and we had a quick dinner before rushing to the movies. In keeping with our valentine's day tradition, we watched "Just Go With It".
It was a typical romantic comedy with good performances by Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston with a surprise appearance by Nicole Kidman. A good Valentine's Day movie!
Our good V-day movie steak continues:
2008-Definitely Maybe
2009-He is just not that into you
2010- Valentine's Day (this is was more entertaining for its A-list cast than for the story)
2011- Just Go With It

Stairway to Seven Not
My friend who is from Pittsburgh was sooo looking forward to Superbowl Sunday. Actually she was really nervous about the game, but was excited for what would be the seveth win for the Steelers. So she hosted a superbowl party themed "Stairway to Seven" complete with chilli, Steelers cookies and Terrible Towels! Unfortunately for her Steelers didn't make it and the Black Eyed peas disappointed us all. But we had a fantastic time with friends!!!
Fig & Olive: Great Brunch Spot
We had a nice brunch despite the terrible weather at the Fifth Avenue location at Fig & Olive. It was a cozy restaurant with good food and service. Recommended!

Winter Road Trip
We started our journey on Saturday morning with several short stops for errands along the way. We reached the Catskills area early afternoon. Our main activity for the day was going snow tubing at Windham Adventure Park. For $20 per person for a 2hr block, it was a very affordable and fun acitivity. We were well prepared for the snow in our waterproof pants and jacket. Being a beautiful sunny we, the place was quite packed with lots of families. But there was hardly any waiting as you could go down in groups of at most three people. The surrounding snow covered mountains made up a picturesque view. But there was hardly any downtown/village center in the nearby area.
For dinner we headed to Saratoga Springs. Though the downtown area was sparse, most of the restaurants were open and we headed to Wheatfields Restaurant for the second time. I ordered the dish that I've come to regard as my most favorite restaurant meal. Their five cheese ravioli is absolutely delicious. I ordered it again and was proven more right about it. I was very satisfied as we headed to Syracuse to spend the night.
Nest morning, we were greeted with a slight flurry, but we spent most of the afternoon at Syracuse Suds Factory catching up with a friend. Places like Albany & Syracuse which were bustling cities about a 100 years ago now bear mere remanants of those glory days. It was a fun road trip that took us through a big loop around NY state and added more fun memories to our upstate adventures.
